Life Groups
We call our small groups Life Groups. Life Groups include every aspect of Christian living and community Jesus taught and demonstrated to His disciples, the first Life Group. An apple tree will only produce fruit if placed with other apple trees; they must have the cross pollination that comes from being with other trees. Believers must have the love, support, and interaction that come from being with other believers. In order to grow in Christ and produce the fruit God desires in us, we need to learn to live together in the kind of community that will come as we grow in Christ together in Life Groups.
Life Groups meet weekly from September through May and meet occasionally for fellowship during the summer. Beginning in September each group focuses on the same topic, using the same material for approximately 10 weeks. This creates a wonderful opportunity for church unity. For the remainder of the year, each Life Group selects its own topic of study.
We invite you to become involved in this small group (8-12 people) atmosphere for study of God’s word, worship, ministry, outreach and fellowship. If you would like to participate or have any questions please contact the church office at (804) 730-9512.
In Life Groups, we are doing life together, by living according to God’s Word, growing in Christ and enjoying Him and one another.
Our Current Life Groups include (some groups are not meeting due to the pandemic, this list will be updated as groups start meeting again):
Irvin Life Group
The Irvin Life Group meets every Tuesday at 6:30pm at the home of Donna Irvin. The group is currently doing a study about the End Times. If you would like to learn more about this life group contact Donna Irvin.
Men’s Ministry
Activities designed just for men of all ages, provide opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship, and bonding with your brothers in Christ:
Men’s Breakfast – Men meet every third Saturday at 8:00 a.m. for a home-cooked breakfast, devotional time (which sometimes includes special guests), and a great time of fellowship. See the calendar page for specific dates.
Current Devotional – Psalm 119 – Topic: “Where is the Lord in this?”
Right Now Media series with Matt Chandler
Even the most mature believers face dark nights of the soul. Psalm 119 demonstrates the power of God’s Word in the lives of believers.

Sunday School

Our Current Sunday School classes include:
- Cross BearersClass: Cross BearersTeacher(s): Bill CumbyTopic of Study: Old Testament book of DeuteronomyFor Ages: AdultsMeets: Weekly on Sunday at 9:15 amLocation: Cross Bearers classroom
In the month of January 2021, the Cross Bearers Sunday school class will be finishing a study of the book of Deuteronomy that we started in 2020 over the next few weeks. We will be looking at how the scriptures in this foundational book led us to what will eventually be a theme in the New Testament.
“Deuteronomy” comes from the Greek for “second law”, thought to refer to the requirement in Deuteronomy 17:18-20 that every future king of Israel will personally write his own copy of this book and personally study it daily for life. But what may be most unique to Deuteronomy from the rest of the books of the Torah is the explosion in the use of the word “love”. Found in Genesis but 4 times, in each of Exodus and Leviticus only twice, and not at all in Numbers, it is used 20+ times in Deuteronomy. This restatement and encapsulation of the Old Testament Word of God provides the same foundation for what is at the heart of the New Testament Word of God: An unbreakable connection to God’s love. This theme is revisited at different intervals throughout the entire book, so this study visits them across the whole book that we might understand the greater message and purpose of God’s Word and not forget what is most important during our overall study. The love message of Christ was not entirely new but fulfilling and building on what had already been established.
So, come join our class for coffee and a snack while we discuss the book of Deuteronomy and what love God has for you. Our class is made up of older adults, both married and single, but we welcome all.
- FriendshipClass: FriendshipTeacher(s): Jim TrustyTopic of Study: Treasures in the DarknessFor Ages: AdultsMeets: Weekly on Sunday at 9:15 amLocation: Friendship classroom
The Friendship Sunday school class has been in existence for 30+ years. Jim Trusty has been the teacher for close to 10 years and does an excellent job of encouraging class members to grow in our spiritual walk. Our class consists of a variety of age groups which provides for interesting conversation.
Currently we are studying a series entitled “Treasures in the Darkness.” by Tony Evans. These recordings generate discussions related to hidden treasures strategically placed in our life. Some of the treasures are trials designed to shake you free from earth-shackles, while others are blessings that reveal His Presence.
Everyone is welcome to come and join our class.
- SeekersClass: SeekersTeacher(s): David Householder and Susan HaynesTopic of Study: Entire BibleFor Ages: AdultsMeets: Weekly on Sunday at 9:15 amLocation: Seekers classroom
Come join the Seekers Adult Sunday school Class as they use Wesley Sunday School literature to study the entire Bible.
Women’s Fellowship Opportunities
Activities designed just for women provide opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship, and bonding with your sisters in Christ.
Women in the Vine – is our women’s ministry deriving its name from John 15:5. Our mission is to establish our value through a personal relationship with God; to use His Word to inspire us to walk out His plan for our lives; to help nurture our God given desires, hopes and dreams through fellowship; and to encourage outreach in every direction. We meet monthly and always have a good time together. Whether we are listening to a speaker, going out to dinner, or painting ceramic tiles at a pottery studio, there is always lots of love and laughter to go around.
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me bears much fruit.
However, apart from Me you can do nothing.
John 15:5
However, apart from Me you can do nothing.
