We call our small groups Life Groups. Life Groups include every aspect of Christian living and community Jesus taught and demonstrated to His disciples, the first Life Group. An apple tree will only produce fruit if placed with other apple trees; they must have the cross pollination that comes from being with other trees. Believers must have the love, support, and interaction that come from being with other believers. In order to grow in Christ and produce the fruit God desires in us, we need to learn to live together in the kind of community that will come as we grow in Christ together in Life Groups.
Life Groups meet weekly from September through May and meet occasionally for fellowship during the summer. Beginning in September each group focuses on the same topic, using the same material for approximately 10 weeks. This creates a wonderful opportunity for church unity. For the remainder of the year, each Life Group selects its own topic of study.
We invite you to become involved in this small group (8-12 people) atmosphere for study of God’s word, worship, ministry, outreach and fellowship. If you would like to participate or have any questions please contact the church office at (804) 730-9512.
In Life Groups, we are doing life together, by living according to God’s Word, growing in Christ and enjoying Him and one another.

Our Current Sunday School classes include:
- Cross BearersClass: Cross BearersTeacher(s): Bill CumbyTopic of Study: Old Testament book of MicahFor Ages: AdultsMeets: Weekly on Sunday at 9:15 amLocation: Cross Bearers classroom
The Cross Bearers class will be studying the Old Testament book of Micah starting in February 2020. This seven week study warns the Jewish nation of certain divine judgment due to their sins against God and prophesied the fall of Samaria and Jerusalem because of their sins. While Isaiah, his contemporary in Jerusalem, addressed the king and international situations; Micah was from a small town in southern Judah. He was a humble, country prophet who condemned the sins of injustice, oppression of the poor, corrupt rulers and priests, and bribed judges. Come join our class as we study this prophet who saw God’s judgment of Israel and Judah and the coming Messiah’s righteousness reign on earth.
- FriendshipClass: FriendshipTeacher(s): Jim TrustyTopic of Study: Divine EncountersFor Ages: AdultsMeets: Weekly on Sunday at 9:15 amLocation: Friendship classroom
The Friendship Sunday school class has been in existence for 30+ years. Jim Trusty has been the teacher for close to 10 years and does an excellent job of encouraging class members to grow in our spiritual walk. Our class consists of a variety of age groups which provides for interesting conversation.
Currently we are studying a CD series entitled “Divine Encounters” by Tony Evans. These recordings generate discussions related to how we allow the Lord to work in and through us in our daily lives to enlarge His kingdom.
Everyone is welcome to come and join our class.
- Open DoorClass: Open DoorTeacher(s): Rotating FacilitatorsTopic of Study: Minor ProphetsFor Ages: College, Young Adults, AdultsMeets: Weekly on Sunday at 9:15 amLocation: Lost & Found classroom
The Open Door Sunday School class meets in the Lost and Found room. Facilitators take turns leading the class on a rotating basis to share in the teaching. The topic of study is the Minor Prophets, we are currently in the book of Zechariah.
This class is geared toward young adults, college age students, parents with young children, or anyone who finds themselves running late on a Sunday morning. If you can make it, we’d love for you to join us. The door is always open.
- SeekersClass: SeekersTeacher(s): David Householder and Susan HaynesTopic of Study: Old TestamentFor Ages: AdultsMeets: Weekly on Sunday at 9:15 amLocation: Seekers classroom
Come join the Seekers Adult Sunday school Class as they use the Friends Quarterly to study the Wisdom books of the Bible consisting of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs. The wisdom books contain some of the most beautifully-written sections of the entire Bible, although they can be a challenge to read straight-through in the way one might approach the clear narratives of the Bible’s historical books. While many books of the Old Testament give us a historian’s view of God’s people and their experiences, the wisdom books provide us with a more pastoral glimpse at the state of their hearts.
Women’s Fellowship Opportunities
Activities designed just for women provide opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship, and bonding with your sisters in Christ.
Women in the Vine – is our women’s ministry deriving its name from John 15:5. Our mission is to establish our value through a personal relationship with God; to use His Word to inspire us to walk out His plan for our lives; to help nurture our God given desires, hopes and dreams through fellowship; and to encourage outreach in every direction. We meet monthly and always have a good time together. Whether we are listening to a speaker, going out to dinner, or painting ceramic tiles at a pottery studio, there is always lots of love and laughter to go around.
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me bears much fruit.
However, apart from Me you can do nothing.
However, apart from Me you can do nothing.
Women’s Retreat – Do you need a weekend away with some sisters in Christ? Every September women from Hanover Friends head off to the Hilton Garden Inn Kitty Hawk located on the beautiful coast of the Atlantic Ocean in Kitty Hawk. Two great sites to see while attending would be the Wright Brothers National Memorial and the North Carolina Aquarium. The weekend overflows with inspiring speakers, wonderful worship, fantastic food, and newfound friends. We would love for you to join us!
